Laser branded food to replace labels?

fruit-laserfoodAn interesting article appeared in the Grocer recently confirming new EU regulations due on 23 June 2013 that permit the coating of iron hydroxides onto fresh fruit to make them laser imageable as per the photo attached.  This new option is designed to make fresh fruit and vegetables more traceable and reduce packaging costs.

Does anybody have a view on eating the skin of fruit coated in this way?  Personally I think it would put me off my lunchtime Granny Smith Apple!
